The Unbeliever

"The Unbeliever" is a short documentary film that touches on several significant social issues - freedom of speech, independence, art, and the church. "The Unbeliever" is a film about the journey of the self towards faith... or disbelief. It explores the path to faith in "the one above," but also faith in the church and its representatives. Through the fate of an abandoned centuries-old church, "The Unbeliever" delves into the minds of Ivaylo Dernev, a journalist who distrusts church authority, and Atanas Khranov, a renowned artist who feels the need for the institution. The film searches for the sound of the church bell in the village of Chernozemen, but does it hear it... Caretaker Delcho also longs to hear this sound, dreaming of ringing the bell for over a decade, but he cannot, as the bell tower might collapse on him. "The Unbeliever" is a film about choosing moral and spiritual foundations. A film about decay, about silence. But also a film about spirit, the power of goodness, and hope. A film about Faith.
